Imbalie launches spa concept 29 May 2017                                                                               Robyn Warries, Heleen van der Merwe and Mathapelo Mabalane In what represents a new direction for the Placecol brand, the Imbalie Beauty Group has opened its first ever PlacecolSPA, at 77 Malibongwe Road in Randburg, Johannesburg. The Imablie-owned Placecol brand has long been known in the industry for its skincare clinics around South Africa, as well as its product ranges. Regarding franchising potential for the PlacecolSPA concept, Imbalie CEO, Esna Colyn, reports that she has already received approximately 10 enquiries from interested parties. PlacecolSPA was previously the LeefSPA, an off-shoot from the Christian-based Leef Magazine. Included on the LeefSPA menu were three treatments that involved anointing, namely ‘By Still Waters’, ‘At His Feet’, and ‘Rose of Sharon’. “PlacecolSPA is proud to continue these Christian treatments,” says Colyn. “The look and feel of the LeefSPA, which was developed over many years by Leef editor, Christine Ferreira, will stay exactly the same and will be replicated when opening new PlacecolSPAs to ensure brand conformity within the group. The loyal customers of LeefSPA, who travelled from as far afield as Namibia, will be pleased to know that LeefSPA’s bespoke beauty treatments remain.” Colyn believes the PlacecolSPA concept is particularly suited to smaller towns. Two former LeefSPA staff members now work for PlacecolSPA – Heleen van der Merwe (who co-manages the spa together with Placecol’s Karen Kriel), and therapist Robyn Warries. Mathapelo Mabalane is the new addition to the team. Says Van der Merwe: “The Placecol induction process took place over two months. Placecol brands, including Beauté Pacifique, have been introduced into the spa, to complement existing brands like Comfort Zone and Bio Effect. “We are obviously looking to attract new markets in addition to our established and loyal client base. While our Christian ambience remains strongly intact, we welcome all cultures to the spa.” (Report by Joanna Sterkowicz)
