The Big Sleep 14 May 2018 Lauren Gibson At a launch held on 7 May at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice in Johannesburg’s Melrose Arch, Dermalogica South Africa introduced Sound Sleep Cocoon, described as a revitalising treatment gel-cream that transforms skin overnight by optimising nighttime skin recovery. Dermalogica’s regional manager for Cape Town, Lauren Gibson, explained why the lack of sleep is so bad for the skin. “Sleep is when the skin and body are at their most productive yet nearly half of the population is affected by sleep issues,” said Gibson. “Insufficient sleep causes more cortisol to be produced in the body, which allows collagen to break down. Sleep deprivation will kill you faster than food deprivation. “Sound Sleep Cocoon is designed to correspond to the Circadian Rhythm and your own sleep cycle. Your skin is nocturnal and sleep could be the closest thing to the fountain of youth as it is the time when you have the highest cell repair, cell turnover and barrier repair. Sleep reduces signs of skin fatigue.” Sound Sleep Cocoon is formulated with tamarind seed extract to create a nourishing cocoon of comfort for softer, more hydrated skin while encapsulated, motion-activated French-lavender essential oil (with Sandalwood and Patchouli) work all night to promote deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin by morning. Other key ingredients include Persian silk-tree extract, which reduces signs of skin fatigue and restores vitality, while Wu- Zhu-Yu extract provides visibly radiant skin by the morning. Gibson concluded by saying that Sound Sleep Cocoon enhances serums or other active products by pushing them further into the skin and will replace all other Dermalogica night moisturisers.
